VineWasp

The following project has been made in collaboration with a local wine farm, with the aim of reducing the workload in the vineyard in terms of fine pruning and tying of vines. The result combines pruning and tying into a single tool that eases the process in the vineyard and reduces the working hours by up to 15%

VineWasp works like a regular pruning shears, but it also consists of an integrated tying function. The mechanism consists of a spindle which rotates steel wire around the vines which holds them in place.

VineWasp grips around the vine, whereby steel wire goes around the branch. Subsequently, VineWasp is retracted, which rotates the head, and thus the steel wire. After a few rotations, the steel wire is cut by a small knife. The vine is now tied up and VineWasp is ready for the next vine.
