ROLLMAT

The following project is my master thesis, with the focus on helping wheelchair users deal with a daily problem - cleaning wheelchair wheels.
When entering a house, most people can wipe off their shoes or take them off without putting much thought to it. Unfortunately, this situation is not as convenient for wheelchair users - cleaning the wheels is currently a laborious and time-consuming process for these people.
ROLLMAT is a device that allows wheelchair users to independently clean their wheels when getting home - an entrance mat specially designed for people in manual wheelchairs. When the user drives over the ramps and onto the rollers, these will make the wheels rotate, facilitating the cleaning process. The wheels are rotated thanks to a motor connected to some rollers, which is controlled by a handheld device. The user holds the handheld cloth against the spinning wheel to wipe off the dirt and dry the tires. A pair of removable brushes in the base are used to remove the dirt that is hard to access in the grooves of the rear wheels. ROLLMAT makes the process of cleaning the wheels of wheelchairs more convenient, accessible and time-efficient
